Odds And Ends

Posted by samgr on December 28, 2008

Joining the land of the living again, a few notes:

My post on my top ten movies of 2008 should be self-explanatory, the previous one certainly is not.  Found it as a draft on my blog’s account.  I don’t remember why I wrote it or what it means.

Also, in reference to past posts, please note that my assessment of Sarah Palin was right on target, while those of others (news analyst whose name rhymes with Schmack Schmeatty) were not.

And I got a digital camera!  Maybe this means there will be more pictures on the blog. Maybe it doesn’t. You get to find out!

Blog Stat-Watch (Everybody Loves Liopleurodons)

Posted by samgr on March 25, 2007

One of the slightly OCD things that wordpress lets me do with this blog is to see how people get to it: what sites they link from, or what searches they use. This isn’t exactly a widely-read blog, but about 90% of the people who do look at it still do so because they were google-searching for information about liopleurodons, which I think is kind of hilarious. I hope these people find what they were looking for here, or at least are interested in what I said on the topic. (Maybe they leave angry, because I crush their dreams of 200-foot liopleurodons leaping out of the water and snatching elephants.) This certainly means that I should move forward and write another entry about a different prehistoric animal, even just in terms of generating interest. Any ideas? I’m thinking either woolly mammoths or pteranodons.

P.S. No one thus far has arrived at this blog looking for my reactions to scientific optimism.

RIP One Sentence Reviews

Posted by samgr on February 9, 2007

So I don’t like the format my reviews are in right now. I’m going to kill off the separate section and just write reviews in my main blog. To preserve human knowledge, I’ll reproduce the ones I’ve already done in the following post.

I just started a new internship and have been pretty busy lately, but I’m still alive and will try to add some new posts and reviews soon.

Kicking Off…

Posted by samgr on January 4, 2007

Hi everyone.

This will be a space for ideas, commentary, and anything else that occurs to me. I may have some axes to grind, but my writing here will not be devoted to any particular one of them. I would like to think of this blog as a project inspired by pragmatist ideals: favoring discussion and exploration rather than ranting or throwing rocks at people I don’t like.

In line with this, please feel free to comment on anything and everything I write, although I would obviously prefer it if comments were not malicious or overly impolite.

That’s all. Off we go!
